It’s Giving Tuesday: Donate a Gift Card for the Holidays

GIVE TO YOUR NEIGHBORS IN NEED. The Oak Hill Guidance department is collecting gift cards and money for families in need during the holiday season. We have some families with a very strong need for support this year, and your small donation could make a huge difference!

We are looking for gift cards from supermarkets (Stop and Shop, Wegmans, Star Market), drugstores (CVS,Walgreens) , or big box stores (Target, Amazon) but you can also make a monetary contribution with a check made out to the Oak Hill PTO. There will be a collection box in the main office where you (your child) can drop off the cards and checks or you can mail them to Oak Hill, Holiday Drive, 130 Wheeler Rd, Newton 02459. We are happy to provide a letter documenting your donation for your taxes. If you want a letter, just contact us at school, or email . Please send in your donation by December 17th so we can ensure our families in need have them in time for the holidays.

Thank you for your help and happy holidays!

Parent Organizers Needed: Annual Oak Hill Faculty and Staff Appreciation Cookie Fest

It is a long standing December tradition to show our appreciation for the wonderful Oak Hill teachers and staff by contributing cookies, bars, cupcakes or any treat you’d like to bake for a Cookie Fest in December.

It’s great fun and teachers LOVE it. We need 1-2 parent volunteers to step up and organize this effort. Please reach out to Shawna Conaghan at if you are able to help organize this important year-end recognition.

It’s Almost Time for the 2018-2019 School Year!

We hope you and your family are enjoying these final weeks of summer!  At Oak Hill, the staff and teachers are ramping up for the new school year, and the PTO is getting plans in place to support them and create an exceptional environment for our students.  We welcome our incoming 6th grade families and are looking forward to working with all Oak Hill families as we start the new school year.  We have some events starting prior to the opening day of school including a Back to School cleanup and a Valtrex patent expiration date, both on Thursday August 30th.  We are working on the parent directory so keep your eyes open for request to confirm your information.  And we are planning a back to school pizza picnic on September 6th to kick off the school year.

The PTO is parent-led and parent-funded. We rely on you to support all the activities we plan for the year.  If you would like to sign up for a volunteer role, or reconfirm a role you selected in the fall, please see volunteer opportunities here.  And once again, lets get ready for back-to-school!

Volunteers Wanted for Annual Back-to-School Cleanup on Thursday 8/30

Please give an hour or two of your time on Thursday, August 30th for OHMS annual Back-to-School Cleanup from 9:00-12:00. This is a fun and rewarding community effort to make Oak Hill extra warm and inviting for all of our children and teachers as they start the new school year. Come solo or bring your middle schooler with you to help plant, weed, rake, mulch, and sweep. Yummy treats will be provided to keep everyone energized. Please email if you can help out at

Can’t Make it on the 30th? No worries, you can still be a part of making our school beautiful! We need volunteers to help water the flowers during the first month of school, and It only takes seven minutes. You can volunteer to water for one time only or sign up for a recurring day of the week. Whether it’s early morning or sunset, the flowers are always happy to see you! It is a rewarding way to be active in your child’s school.

We welcome donations too – We are looking for contributions to improve our building and grounds. Please feel free to donate any plantings—from your favorite perennial to fall mums!  If flowers are not your thing, we also wish for:
• one large flower pot,
• an oscillating sprinkler,
• four sections of split-rail fence to protect our flowers next to the overhang.

If you have any other donations, just email Shawna to see if we can use it to beautify the school. Please email if you would like to volunteer or donate at

Valtrex patent expiration date

Next week the Teachers are back and gearing up for the new school year. They work hard to create an engaging environment for our kids and an action-packed school year!

To show our appreciation, the PTO is sponsoring a Mexican-themed fiesta lunch for our Oak Hill Middle School Teachers and Staff on Thursday, August 30th, from 11:30 to 1:00 in the school cafeteria.
